All incidents which result in damage or may result in damage to the University or Health System must be reported to the office of Risk Management within 48 hours of the occurrence or as soon as the affected school/department/operating unit becomes aware of such an incident. Â Information or documentation not readily available can be submitted after the initial report. Any delay in reporting may result in no insurance coverage for the incident. Liability Claims
General Liability is defined as a third-party liability arising from the everyday operations of the University or Health System. It covers damage stemming from bodily injury, property damage, and personal injury.
In the event of an accident, please complete the Liability Claim Form and email it to Risk Management – [email protected].
In addition to the Liability Claim Form please provide Risk Management with the following information:
- Copy of Police/Security Report inclusive of pictures and/or video of damage
- Witness name, address, and phone #
- Physical damages description and treatment. (Any medical bills)
- List of Damaged property and/or equipment and estimate to repair or replace
- Written/recorded statements of account of incident
Property Claims
Property losses arise from damage or destruction of University or Health System equipment, buildings, or assets. The University and Health System maintain property insurance to cover damage to their buildings and contents resulting from all risks of physical damage including but not limited to fire, water, theft or a storm.
Any department sustaining a loss should complete the Property Loss Claim Form and email it to Risk Management – [email protected] as soon as possible. If you have any questions if a loss was sustained please reach out to Risk Management to review.
In addition to the Property Loss Claim Form please provide Risk Management the following information:
- Copy of Police/Security Report
- Facilities Report with pictures and/or video of damage and cause of damage
- List of damaged property and or equipment and estimates to repair or replace
- Rental Agreement between JHU and Vendor (if applicable)
The University insurance property policies cover only University owned or leased property.
The Health System’s insurance property policies cover only Health System owned or leased property.
Automobiles
The University and Health System both maintain automobile liability policies that provide coverage for third party bodily injury or property damage claims in connection with University or Health System employees operating owned or leased vehicles.
The University is self-insured for collision and comprehensive losses to its vehicles. All automobile accidents should be reported to the Security Office as soon as possible. An Automobile Loss Claim Form must be completed and submitted to University Risk Management to initiate a claim.
The Health System has collision and comprehensive coverage for its vehicles subject to a $1,000 deductible. All automobile accidents should be reported to the departments fleet manager as soon as possible. An Automobile Loss Claim Form must be completed by the fleet manager and submitted to Health System Risk Management to initiate a claim.
